When we were kids my brother impaled his foot on a golf tee, and I had to deal with it. Good fun!

My dad called the little army men “foot soldiers” ,usually with an expletive.

My dad took a break from shoveling manure ( forking manure?) when I was fairly young.
Unfortunately he plunged the pitchfork straight into his shoe. And his toe.
Needless to say, a tetanus shot was the next item on the agenda.

Ouch. Yeah sounds like tetanus shot would be well warranted (and probably a nice course of anti-biotics). I don’t think my brother got one for the golf tee, but he did when he accidentally kneeled down on a nail doing something outside at school (it was a rough time for his legs in general) .

I was going to say that it’s just swapping, and they can be quite agg ressive with the soles, but I see you already beat me to it.

I got a chunk of my wood floor stuck in my foot once...it finally worked itself out four years later. The giant splinter was in remarkably good shape when it resurfaced, too!

I stepped on a 2x4 when I was a kid and the nail that was in it embedded itself in my heel right through my shoe. When I yelped and picked up my foot, the board came with it. I had to have help to get the nail out of my foot.
But that’s not the worst I’ve heard of.
A friend of mine was fishing on the Houston shipping channel jetty in Galveston. He says he was at least half a mile down the jetty, but that distance grows every time he tells this story. He was having a bad day and was in a run of catfish instead of the trout he wanted. He finally got so mad that he thought he would eliminate the problem by stomping a few catfish instead of throwing them back.
He forgot that catfish have spines.
The dorsal spine of his first victim went through his boot heel, impaling his foot on the fish. Those spines have serrations, so the offending fin was stuck fast. Having left his tackle box in the truck, he didn’t have any pliers, so he had to hobble-hop his way back down the jetty and across the beach to his truck with a live fish flopping around under his foot. He cut the spine, then pulled enough out to finally extract his foot from the boot. He proved himself a real fisherman that day. He didn’t g o to the hospital. Instead, he doctored up his wound, then hobbled back out to his fishing spot. I can’t remember if he caught any trout that day , but I do know he never tried to stomp a catfish again.

And conversely, it’s taken me years to convince the children that barefoot is not appropriate garage footwear.

O yea I've stepped on a 2*4 with a nail. It feels like stabbing a fork into astral. That fish thing sounds pretty fucked up. I'm surprised he didn't get an infection

Me too. He spent his life around the water and now has a career as a fishing guide. I’d like to think that he has some immunity after being exposed to fish muck for so long.
